Have you ever heard a financial advisor say they have perfect clients?
Frank LaRosa sits down with Michael Brady, founder of Generosity Wealth Management and a coaching client and friend of his through Strategic Coach.
Michael shares how his career started with a simple observation, the best financial planners he worked with early on had the knowledge of a doctor but the care of a nurse. That idea stuck with him for sixteen years of traditional financial planning, until a single client, one of the first AIDS doctors in Boulder, retired and used his newfound freedom to train doctors in Uganda. Watching that ripple effect changed the direction of Michael's entire career.
Michael explains why he took two years off with his wife to travel and volunteer before starting Generosity Wealth Management in 2008, a firm built from day one around philanthropy instead of just portfolios. Frank presses him on what he means when he says he has perfect clients and Michael shares how upfront he was with prospective clients from the very first meeting about exactly what kind of advisor he is and is not, letting the wrong fits filter themselves out naturally. Frank names the concept himself, calling it positive friction.
The conversation goes deep into how Michael actually integrates charity into his practice, from inviting clients onto nonprofit boards alongside him to making board involvement a requirement for every advisor at his firm. Frank and Michael discuss why this approach does not just feel good, it actively builds trust, referrals and a client base that shares the same values.
