What is your industry defining goal and do you actually know what it is?

Frank LaRosa says most financial advisors never take the time to find out.

Frank opens by sharing what he calls a workation, time away from the office where he can actually think strategically instead of just checking out. Stacey recounts catching him working by the pool at five thirty in the morning on their recent trip and Frank explains why that kind of deliberate thinking space led him to write an entire internal operating playbook after reading eight books in eleven days.

That thinking space is also where Frank landed on what he calls an industry defining goal, or IDG, a version of the big hairy audacious goal made famous in books like Scaling Up and Traction. Frank breaks down why a goal like this has to feel almost impossible to achieve and why his own goal is to be responsible for helping one out of every ten financial advisors who move firms.

Frank gets personal about applying that same framework to his own life, questioning whether the time and money he spends racing is helping or slowing down his path to that goal. Stacey pushes the conversation further into practice management, walking through how financial advisors should audit their client list by tier and why spending more time with fewer high value clients almost always beats spreading yourself thin.

The episode closes with a direct challenge. Stacey lays out why so much of your success comes down to what you can actually control and Frank adds that you cannot place blame on circumstances once you know better. Together they push financial advisors to stop chasing the next move and start figuring out the right move for their business and their life.
